sportsperformance physiotherapy’s physiotherapists provide regular on-field cover for HKFC rugby section and Kowloon RFC during the rugby season, as well as acting as team physiotherapists for national representative sides including the men’s national XV squad and the boys U20 national XV and 7’s squad.
On-field physiotherapy is very different to working in the clinic; before games the emphasis is on strapping, massage and stretching, during games the physiotherapist manages acute trauma, cuts, head and neck injuries and has to make decisions as to whether a player is fit to continue playing.
A number of our physiotherapists have successfully completed the England RFU Pitchside Trauma Immediate Care course, a prerequisite for medical professionals working at the highest level of rugby in England. This course includes advanced life support and spinal care with suspected neck injuries, as well as a systematic approach to managing acute trauma. All of our physiotherapists are trained in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and the use of the AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
sportsperformance physiotherapy has in the past provided on-field medical cover for high profile events such as the HKFC Rugby 10’s and the Soccer 7’s, both of which attract top professional athletes from overseas in their respective sports.
