About the programme

When you think of losing weight, physiotherapists probably aren’t the first people that comes to your mind. If you want to lose weight, you can simply eat less. The main idea is to make sure that your calories intake is less than your energy expenditure.

That is if you are only looking at the number on the scale. But losing weight is more than just a number. Less heavier doesn’t equal to being healthy. In order to lose weight in a healthy manner and to maintain a long-term weight loss, a balanced diet and the right amount of physical activities are vital.

A qualified physiotherapist has knowledge and skills of:

  • The biopsychosocial model
  • Physical assessment and diagnosis
  • Biomechanics
  • Exercise prescription
  • Management of long-term conditions
  • Injury prevention

These make physiotherapists ideal candidates to address the physical and psychological complexities of obesity. Physiotherapists not only help you improve your mobility, restore flexibility and increase strength. They can also help prevent injuries that may occur with excessive weight gained.
