Plantar warts, sometimes called verrucas, are noncancerous skin growths that usually appear on your feet’ heels or other weight-bearing areas.
They can look and feel like a callus. Warts can be small or grow to cover most of the sole. They are not harmful and go away on their own in months or years. Warts can, however, cause irritation or minor pain.
Treatment of plantar warts
There are three main treatment options:
Peeling medicine(salicylic acid): Prescription-strength wart medications with salicylic acid work by removing the outer dead layers of skin a little bit at a time.
Cryotherapy: Freezing warts with liquid nitrogen. This method can be painful and may cause blisters.
Laser therapy: Using the laser to burn and destroy the wart tissue. The infected tissue eventually dies, and the wart falls off. It can cause pain and potentially scarring.
Cryotherapy on Plantar Warts
Cryotherapy is an application of extreme cold to treat local areas of diseased tissues. Usually, liquid nitrogen will freeze the tissues at a cellular level. The treatment itself might need a local anaesthetic if there is pain involved.
Using cryotherapy to treat warts has been a gold standard; the procedure is fast and straight forward and can be conducted in a podiatry clinic.
How we treat warts
Initial consultation: An initial consultation will consist of examining warts and determining how long it has been present. Our podiatrist will then discuss with the patient the treatment options. Once determined that cryotherapy would be the best course of treatment, the cryotherapy procedure can be conducted during the initial consultation.
Follow-up: This depends on the result of the first treatment. Sometimes, the wart is buried deep in the sole, which might require another course of treatment.
What would the patient expect after cryotherapy?
After the initial consultation, the skin is expected to discolour and fall off. Sometimes, some irritation reaction would lead to red and swollen for a day or two; blister may also occur. Healing is generally quick, with little or no scarring.
About the Cryosurgical pen
The cryosurgical pen is the most advanced, state-of-the-art technology in the field of cryosurgery. It is safer and easier to use, it is also more accurate than spray. Reduce surrounding tissue damage as it focuses on one point only.
