Suffering from flat feet? When flat feet are caused by decreased muscle tone or muscle weakness, several exercises can help. Along with trying these safe and effective exercises at home, it’s recommended to consult your child’s doctor to understand why their arch hasn’t fully developed and to get a tailored treatment plan.

Exercises to Improve Flat Feet
1. Single Leg Balance

  • Stand on a foam balance pad or firm cushion and practice balancing on each leg for 10-second intervals to challenge arch activation.
  • If standing on one foot is too challenging, try placing the opposite foot on a ball or standing with one foot directly in front of the other for easier variations.

2. Marble Pick Up with Feet

  • Have your child practice picking up marbles or small objects with their feet/toes and dropping them into a small container. This exercise requires greater control and prolongs muscle activation.
  • Begin this exercise in a sitting position. Once your child has mastered it, try it standing up to encourage single-leg balance on the opposite leg.

3. Platform Jump Downs

4. Platform Jump Ups
Jump up onto a platform with attention to alignment. Increase the height of the platform as your child gains mastery.
